2008: From Canada to the World

In November 2008, Toronto ALPHA was pleased to host its annual fundraising dinner at the Premiere Ballroom & Convention Centre. During this evening, we shared our goals and hopes for the future and presented the many accomplishments that we have achieved due to the generous help of our supporters. We thank the over 700 guests who shared this amazing evening with us. We appreciate your help in our struggle to right the wrongs of the past and we ask for your continued support

Ray of Hope … 60 Years Later

On October 19, 2005, Toronto ALPHA hosted the dinner event “Ray of Hope … 60 Years Later” at the Premiere Ballroom, Richmond Hills, Ontario. Many interested community members joined our celebration and embraced our mission to pursue historical truth and justice concerning WWII in Asia.


GLOBAL ALLIANCE 2008 BIENNIAL INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
“Education & Teaching: The History of World War II in Asia”

Toronto ALPHA was pleased to host the Global Alliance 8th Biennial Conference on Friday October 31 to Sunday November 2, 2008 at the Yee Hong Center in Scarborough. The theme of this year’s conference is Education & Teaching: The History of World War II in Asia. The conference included keynote speakers and panel discussions with renowned educators in the field.

The Global Alliance for Preserving the History of WWII in Asia (GA) is a non-profit, non-partisan worldwide federation of over 40 grassroots organizations. Founded in 1994, its mission is to preserve the historical truth of the Asia-Pacific War (1931-1945). For only through historical truth can we secure justice for victims, safeguard humanity from repeating past mistakes, and bring about genuine reconciliation and lasting peace among all peoples. The Global Alliance invites all people of goodwill to join in this endeavour in the spirit of the Golden Rule. More information about GA can be found at http://www.global-alliance.net .


Screening of Docu-Drama “Iris Chang -the Rape of Nanking”

Premieres and private screenings of “Iris Chang: The Rape of Nanking” were held in many cities and universities in North America and around world, beginning in November, 2007. [details]

 

 

 


Commemorative Concert

On December 13, 2007, to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Nanking Massacre, Toronto ALPHA organized a high caliber commemorative concert. The concert was conducted by music director, Mr. Tak-Ng Lai and included performances by other top notch musical talents from Toronto.

 


Remembrance Day Ceremony

Patricia O'Reilly and Sandra of Senator O'Connor College School put together a service for Remembrance day, Nov. 11, 2005. The title of the service was "Lest We Forget: The Victims and Heroes of War". The service focused on the Asian front during World War II, with emphasis on the victims of human rights abuses in Asia, the heroes who helped them, and the call to Global Citizenship. High school students of all grade levels attended the service on November 11th. Dr. Wong, founder of Toronto ALPHA, was the guest speaker.


ALPHA Annual Donor’s Meeting

Toronto ALPHA holds an annual meeting to thank it’s supporter and donors who are critical to ALPHA’s success. During this meeting, ALPHA reports on achievement and successes and discusses future plans and projects.

 


Annual Peace & Reconciliation Study Tours

ALPHA has organized and sponsored five study tours, where 120 educators from across Canada and Australia toured China and Korea and visited important sites.

Educators have since brought ALPHA’s educational materials into their classrooms and produced audio/visual materials to share with other teachers, written papers, published articles and made presentations about ALPHA’s work. [details]
