Education Work in Korea
ALPHA has been working closely with the Korean Council for the Women Drafted for Military Sexual Slavery by Japan, the House of Sharing and the Northeast Asia History Foundation. Since 2008, South Korea has been included in the Peace & Reconciliation Study Tour itinerary. Toronto ALPHA attended the 2nd and 3rd World History NGOs Conference in Seoul in 2008 and 2009.
Education Work in Australia
Since 2008, teachers from Australia have participated in the Annual Peace & Reconciliation Study Tour to Asia. Upon their return to Australia, these teachers not only took initiatives in teaching and sharing their learning experiences of the study tour, but also helped connect Toronto ALPHA with various education institutions and educators in Australia. ALPHA participated in discussions about the inclusion of Asian WWII history materials and resources in the Australian curriculum.
Education Work in Japan
ALPHA made a presentation at the Asian Solidarity Conference on Japanese Military Sexual Slavery in 2008. In 2009, ALPHA was invited to bring a group of Canadian educators to Kobe Japan for an education forum. A group of nine Canadian educators together with the Chair and Vice-Chair of ALPHA went to Japan for an exchange of ideas with Japanese educators, teachers’ union and students. ALPHA also visited Hiroshima, to ensure that our educators have a thorough, overall understanding of the picture of the WWII history in Asia. Japan will be included in future Peace & Reconciliation Study Tours to Asia.
